Fashion also protects the Environment.

Milan Fashion Week, which ended last September 23rd, established itself with a strong and clear message: the protection of the environment. Immediately afterwards, the Parisian one, inaugurated by the Dior fashion show with Maria Grazia Chiuri as creative director, allowed the same theme to emerge. This is when they say that fashion is not just fashion, but a message to be sent through lines, shapes, colors and materials. In a historical period in which one of the most discussed topics is the environment, even the world of fashion has united and bonded in this message of recovery, well-being and hope for the planet that hosts us.

During these latest editions, many fashion houses have supported and shown their ecological commitment, aware of the fact that the fashion industry is one of the most polluting on the planet. Especially in the era of mass markets and continuous production. It is produced and then immediately thrown away and reproduced. And so on, in a rapid and continuous cycle.

This was exactly what Miuccia Prada wanted to underline by bringing classic, interchangeable and matchable garments to the catwalk. Clean and minimalist lines, simple and also timeless colors, to curb this excessive consumerism of the fashion market. A phenomenon that has grown dramatically in recent times, probably without even asking too many questions.

Again, it was the time during which many young designers (and even models, journalists and industry experts) raised their alarm against the dramatic consequences generated by climate change.

Marni, for example, wanted to reproduce the sad scenario of the burning Amazon rainforest on the catwalk. He did it in the style that is closest to him, that of fashion, by setting up a backdrop made of recycled plastic palm trees and parading garments made from recycled fabrics and then hand-painted.

Last but not least, the Versace catwalk walked by a dazzling JLO in her legendary “Jungle” dress. And so on, continuing through designers and catwalks, until we reach the Roman Tiziano Guardini, among the best known of recent times for his strong cry in favor of eco-sustainable fashion. He has always created collections that are totally in favor of the environment.

These weeks have been busy, both on a fashion and social and environmental level. Respect for nature and its inhabitants proved to be a hot topic and no less stylish than previous editions. If it is true that fashion is one of the many forms of expression of what happens around us, then this time it has best summed up the surrounding present.
